McKinley Expands Footprint with New Home Office

Wheeling, WV – One of the region’s largest architecture and engineering firms, is expanding the footprint of its headquarters, making the move into their new complex in Wheeling.

McKinley Architecture and Engineering has completed an $8 million renovation of the historic Fort Henry building, securing the spacious fourth floor as its new home base. This expansion improves and ensures the ability to better meet client needs and handle increased growth.

David H. McKinley, Chairman of McKinley Architecture and Engineering, states, “After years of growth and success, we simply outgrew our previous space and needed to acquire a larger office area to offer improved capabilities.”

McKinley continued, “That, together with a desire to help save the Fort Henry building, led us to invest in the conversion and update of the iconic downtown structure.”

The architecture and engineering company is in its 5th decade of operation with three locations in West Virginia; Wheeling, Charleston, and Martinsburg, as well as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Each office is within 500 miles of one-half the population of the United States.

According to McKinley, they began this rehabilitation project eight years ago as part of a National Park Service phased project. The renovations are to comply with the United States Secretary of the Interior’s guidelines for historic preservation and restoration. The West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office was the driving force behind the rehabilitation of the building with guidance, expertise, and grant funding for the building.

McKinley Architecture and Engineering is on the PSMJ Circle of Excellence list of PSMJ’s annual A/E Financial Performance Benchmark Survey, based on 13 key performance metrics.
In addition, for the third consecutive year, McKinley is on the Inc. 5000 list of the nation’s fastest- growing private companies.
